IBM cottage Tateyama Beach House is located at very south of Chiba Prefecture. Some of you already have stayed there in 2002 and 1998.

We call this type of event 'Gassyuku'. Gassyuku is a general Japanese word which means gathering and staying for a few days to excercise something. Maybe it is same as 'hapsuk'. We hold this Tateyama Gassyuku twice a year.

Oct/25
Hyohdoh and Kohmoto meet you at Narita Airport . We go to Tokyo area by train (perhaps Keisei Express) about 1.5 hour. Highway bus for Yamanaka lake departs at 15: 15 from Shinjyuku arrives at Yamanaka lake at 17:15
Ushijima, Hashiguchi, Ishikawa, and Nakagawa wait for us and have dinner together.
There are five lakes around Mt. Fuji Yamanaka lake is one of them and a famous view point of Mt. Fuji. If weather is good you can see the beautiful Mt. fuji in taking a hot spring bath. Let's play go after dinner. It may be a little bit cool in this mountaneous area.

Oct/26
We enjoy driving and sightseeing the area of Fuji Hakone National park for all day. Hashiguchi , Ishikawa, and Nakagawa are drivers. In Hakone sight seeing spots are Ohwaku Valley , Ashinoko lake, etc. We arrive at IBM Sengoku Lodge just before dinner. Hot spring bath is provided ,too here. We stay at IBM Sengoku Lodge except Hyohdoh. He has Go lesson on the next day. He joins again on Oct/28th at Tateyama.

Oct/27
Ishikawa and Nakagawa don't take part in Gassyuku , so Hashiguchi takes you toTateyama. Ushijima and Kohmoto go by other cars. We join Gassyuku in the afternoon. Ferry time is 11:00,11:50,12:45 at Kurihama . 11:50 is ideal ship.

Oct 29 (Sunday) After Gassyuku, we will have a short tour. We will visit Umi-Hotaru, then move to Odaiba in Tokyo. After lunch there, you will go Narita Airport by train.

3.Baduk match Game Rule

Please read carefully this section, so we will be able to have a game smoothly

3-1 Overview

There are Formal game and Free game. Formal one is called 'Gassyuku League match" and Free one is called 'Friendly match'
All should play formal one at first.Then after completing formal one , You can play Free game.
Both games are recorded and rewarded.
Formal games are played in each Class. Players are assigned in some Class depend on his rank.
Free game is a free-style match with other class player.

3-2 Gassyuku League Match (Formal Game) Rule

All the participants are classified into 4 classes (A ,B ,C and D ) by his strength,(classified member list is attached. see participants part of this document.) Then the game will start in each class. This is Handicap game with our specific rules. (We call this "Magata Rule")

Here is a good sample chart, which is of 1998 Tateyama Gassyuku.

This time, the number of players in each class is as follows

All players should play with all other players in his class.

So, in case of class A, there are 11 people. so player would play with other 10 player.)

All players should play with our teacher 'Mitsunaga Sensei'.

Mitsunaga Junzoh Sensei(teacher)is Nihon-Kiin 5dan Japanese Professional player. He himself take part in this tournament (all classes). He played as 10 dan and plays with 3 or 4 players simultaneously.

We do not restrict the playing sequence of player, please find your opponent by yourself and play in your own pace. Be sure to complete all formal games by 2nd day midnight.

3-3 Friendship baduk match (Free game)

After Formal game, if you have time, Any free game over the class over the country would be played as Friendship match game. Default time rule is 30 minutes chess clock game, but actually you can change to any time rule by 2 player's agreement.

As I related in formal game section, All the korean vs japanese formal game would be recorded also as a free game. Then we can calculate total score of each country's .

3-4 Time Rule

We use absolute time rule. Chess clock are used for all games. 40 minutes are given each player.If you had lost your time, that means you loose the game even if any good condtion you have on the board.. Please complete your game within that restricted time. Anyway be careful to keep your time.

In free game,it depends on 2 player's negotiation. it is OK that 30minutes for both and also OK no timelimit game.

3-5 result record

Usually, winner should record the result on the chart by red felt pen. The name on the left edge is you , and name on the top is your opponent. Our teacher is too busy,so you should record the result of the game with him regardless of win or loose .

3-6 Handicap

We use Magata rule as our game's handicap.(both formal one and free one) Magata rule was named by his creator Magata Hisashi san who is one of our member.

In Magata rule, the rank was determined by 0.5 dan scale.(in the case 3dan up) That means next to 3dan is not 4dan but 3.5dan ! also there is 4.5dan ,5.5dan ,6.5dan. Then the difference between the player determins the handicap as follows.

B is black, W is white

Above is our handy setting chart. For example,the game between 4.5dan and 6.0 dan, there are 1.5dan difference. 4.5dan player put 2stones as a handi and should make a 0.5point komi, this means, if the game was ended quite same score. 4.5dan player loose that game.

In case of kyu rank plyaers, 1Kyu is estimated as 0dan and 2Kyu is -1dan, for example 2kyu and 3.5dan , there are 4.5dan difference. so 5stone (komi 0.5 from B)is a handicap in this case..

3-7 final evaluation

Japan torunament manager and coordinator would calculate all of this matter at the end.

Formal game final result was determined by below criteria.

Free game final result was determined by below

How much you won over
How much you play
posision (lower)

For example 8-1 score is better than 10-4 score. and 10-2 is better than 8-0.

3-8 Prize

Formal game 1st, 2nd, 3rd in each class are rewarded something.

Free game Korean 1st , 2nd, Japan 1st , 2nd are rewarded something.

Generally Formal Prize will be bit better than Free one :)

5.Other information

Please don't use a refrigeator in your room. please consult our coordinator about drink.

Tateyama Beash house is Self Service.please bring your plates and cups after finished your meal.

You can access internet if you bring your personal computer as there is an equipment in Tateyama Beach House.(DHCP)

Because of Caffeteria's capacity,8 or 9 Japanese person will have dinner at Tatami room.

Because of Caffeteria's capacity, it is impossible that all members eat breakfast simultaneously, but usually there is much difference between early bird and heavy sleep member.So there will be no problem.

Dinner time is 18:00, you should stop your game at this time.

You can take a bath from 16:00 to 23:00.

For smokers, don't smoke outside of Smoking Area. please check it after arrival.

Fujita san will come Tateyama around 19:00 with his daughter.

Hyodoh san will come Tateyama around 12:00 on Oct 28(Sat),he only join in Free Game.

We would go hiking on a middle day.

You can play Tennis if you like on a middle day.
